June 28 NC Zoo Outing and Zoofari Tour

Dear BL Families,

Anyone interested in a fun day together at the NC Zoo? We would like to gauge interest for a private Zoofari tour at the NC Zoo at 10 AM on June 28. This private safari bus tour would be an additional cost of $25 per person, in addition to the zoo admission fee. More information can be found at this link: https://www.nczoo.org/experiences/attractions/zoofari

If your family is interested in joining us at the NC Zoo on June 28 and/or participating in the private Zoofari tour, please let Meghann know ASAP at meghann@brightlinks.us. Thanks!

Awesome! I will follow up with you over the weekend. :)

Do you have a future artist, architect, or engineer? Resource sharing 🙂

This summer my daughter is trying a 2 week summer intensive classical architecture camp at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. She is very excited, but nervous. I will follow up after camp. Read more here: https://www.benedictine.edu/academics/departments/architecture/intensive/index#:~:text=Overview,are%20discerning%20the%20architecture%20major.

What other camps have other families tried and loved (or not) for future artists, architects, and engineers? Please share in this thread. Thank you!

First steps for homeschool?

With 2 parents working in-office, we've been pretty reluctant to consider homeschooling. But as our kiddo approaches middle school, he's struggling more as opposed to getting better. It's getting to the point where we feel we must consider it, can see the benefits, but still can't quite figure out if it's feasible. Does anyone have a suggestion for first steps? Each resource I find tends to be geared toward some student who is reluctant to learn and who will need a lot of direct instruction and micromanagement from the parents. Our son is very self-directed with most learning (aside from being a reluctant writer) and micromanagement would be a nightmare for all of us.

Apologies for the ignorance, but is there some type of homeschool setup that is basically like an online school? The other resources I'm finding caution over and over "homeschool is NOT handing a curriculum to a…

So sorry I’m just now seeing this! I’m a homeschooling mom too! There’s just no other viable option for us really. Homeschooling absolutely can and should be customized to all of your needs and his abilities! We tend to piece together things for my son (sensitivities and asynchronies span years), but I do know there are one-stop-shop online schools, even ones where they have individualized and customized instruction/ hours. I know this post is older. Have you found something that works for you or are you still looking?
