Hi Eric! We are in South Durham in the Woodlake community! My son, Indra, is 7. His interests are mainly engineering, robotics, coding, building kits, and he's been deep diving into magic recently (as in magic tricks, not the role playing card game). His only musical interest so far is beat boxing, lol. I can't speak to Durham Public Schools and how they handle gifted kids, but I can speak to homeschooling as that is all we've done with my son so far. I do know that if you have an autism diagnosis for your son, you would be qualified to receive money from the Disabilities Grant Program in NC if you can get an IEP from his school, even if you decide to homeschool!
