Welcome to our BL Community, Please Introduce Yourself!
Our team is trying to determine the best ways for our families to communicate though our private members only website features. One of the things I would like to see more of is families, new and old, make posts here in the forum or in our private groups, introducing themselves and their children.
Communication and introductions are key when finding peers who are close to your geographical location, close to your child's age, or has a child that enjoys the same things your child does.
It also might be possible to match your younger child to an older big buddy to facilitate a supportive relationship of mentoring and friendship.
In our community we have an incredible pool of talented parents as well as children. Would it be nice to have another parent take on a mentoring role with your child? These are the kinds of things we are hoping to facilitate in our community.
My husband and I live in the north part of Wake County in Wake Forest with our two children, Tyler and Kasey. I am a co-founder and director of BRIGHTLinks. We have been homeschooling for the past five or so years.
Our children both love animals, reading, Minecraft, board games, social deduction and role playing games, and music. We have 2 cats, Dexter and Hank. 🐱🐱
Thirteen year old Kasey loves learning French, cooking and baking, playing the cello, singing, architecture, mythology, and drawing.
Fifteen year old Tyler loves computer science and game development, peer tutoring, math, music composition, piano, memes, and driving with his new permit.
We have been so fortunate over the years to be able to connect with families with kids like ours. We hope we can facilitate a connected and supportive community for your family as well. 💜
Kind regards,
Lisa Johnson

Hello! My family is new to BrightLinks. We currently live in South Carolina but are in the midst of exploring options to make a move to the Triangle area (largely due to the lack of educational opportunities and social options for 2e kids where we currently are).
Our family includes:
14 year old that LOVES to write. Has co-published a triology, solo-self-published a fourth book, and is currently working on her 5th - a scifi starswars-esque story we're all hoping to actually get to an agent and publishing company. Also loves reading - scifi, historical fiction, mystery, YA (not romance), cats, cat genetics, currently participates in vocal and piano lessons, and enjoys learning about history, social justice issues, and more. Generally not the biggest fan of humans, forced-socialization, but is funny, warm, and a kind leader when surrounded by 2e people/their tribe.
12 year old girl who is a total social butterfly and loves babysitting, roller hockey, art, creative writing short stories, anything creative - crafts, recycled/upcycled crafts, interior design, fashion, sewing, crocheting, and survival camps/outdoor classes, especially fort-building. She generally is obssessed with any number of things... until she's not. Current fixation is Wolfquest - a wolf simulation video game (following a visit to Yellowstone a few years ago) and all things Wolves.
11 year old boy who is super active in beast ninja /warrior ninja/obstacle ninja competitions, roller hockey, and anything gel-blaster. He's a bit of a math nerd and enjoys asking questions like "how many people in the world share today as their birthday?" or telling me things like, "look it's 12:12:12" (at every possible "fun" combo on the clock. He REALLY likes Minecraft - has read ALL the encyclopedias, and loves chess and enjoys rubiks cubes too. Like my middle one, he's a huge fan of survival training/outdoor time, tree climbing, fort building, knife using/safety, etc.
All three kids are active in our community theater and are pursuing certification in indoor skydiving formation flying. We're a HUGE board game family and hope to attend on the next Gamers and Geekery meetups! We're also trying to visit ALL the states and as many National Parks as we can before my oldest graduates .
We currently "homeschool" via a Microschool I created for 2e kids, and are looking at different educational options in the Triangle area, including, "moving" our homeschool center /microschool if needed. Would love to chat - phone, video, or meet up when we are in the area visiting - with anyone that has thoughts/leads for good educational options, secular homeschool opportunities, interest in a new microshool for 2e MS and HS kids, or has kids with similar interests that would be interested in making new friends! We'll be in the area the entire week after Christmas and have been making trips up every two weeks or so (usually Fridays) to scope out schools and other opportunities!
Thanks for reading so much! Hope to connect soon, Kelly
